Marie grew up in the New York City suburbs and attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia as a pre-med major whose favorite class was an English seminar called “Mourning and Memory in American Literature”. She then lived in New Orleans, Portland, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia again before settling in the Pacific Northwest.
Always an avid reader, Marie's first publication was a poem in a Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul book when she was a teenager. As an adult, her creative writing took a backseat to co-authoring more than twenty peer-reviewed scientific articles but now that she is established in her career as surgeon, she has returned to writing fiction and poetry.
When Marie isn’t reading, writing, or operating she enjoys trail running, surfing, snowboarding, visiting contemporary art museums, and getting slightly lost in other countries.
